Our April Open Morning, on Saturday 14th April, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., will be another opportunity to view our latest exhibition: “Jubilees and Jubilation”. Our Open Morning, on Saturday 17th March, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Carnarvon Room, will be the first opportunity to see our New Exhibition – “Jubilees and Jubilation: Celebrating Royal Events in the Villages”. As usual, our local history resources will also be available, including maps, photographs, family history materials & census records. Entrance, including tea/coffee & biscuits £1.50 .

On Saturday 31st March we will be holding an Antiques Fayre in the Carnarvon Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Antiques & Curios, books, cakes & preserves on sale.  Entrance £1.50 including tea/coffee & biscuits.

Thynghowe is a Viking age assembly site in Birklands on the western edge of Sherwood Forest, between Warsop and Edwinstowe. The Friends of Thynghowe have been awarded £50,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to undertake further research in Birklands Sherwood Forest. This will include surveying the forest and researching the archives for more evidence of the history of the forest from the Iron Age to the 2nd World War! There are opportunities for volunteers to be involved in this project, including training and assistance with travel and care expenses. The project is being launched at Mansfield Museum from 3rd to 28th March 2012. Further details and contact information can be found here.

Below are some photographs of a memorial to another Lancaster bomber crew, who lost their lives when their plane crashed in 1943 near Staunton-in-the-Vale. As well as the memorial in the churchyard, a panel has recently been erected at the churchyard entrance, giving further information.

Our December Open Morning, on Saturday 17th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Carnarvon Room, will be a Christmas Fayre, including a tombola, book stall, cakes & bric-a-brac. The current exhibition on Village Societies will also be on show.
